People & Society

Sri Lanka’s mid-2025 population is about 23.23 million. The country is multi-ethnic: Sinhalese make up roughly three-quarters of the population, with Sri Lankan Tamils, Indian Tamils, and Moors (Muslims) forming large minorities.

The head of state is President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in office since 23 September 2024.

Languages spoken: Sinhala and Tamil are official, while English is widely used in business and hospitality.
